NAFCU said it has added two credit union veterans to its compliance team as new regulatory compliance counsels.

They are Bernadette Clair from the $679 million Congressional FCU in Oakton, Va., and Jihan “Jiji” Bahhur from the $81 million Washington Gas Light FCU in Springfield, Va.

“Given the increasingly challenging regulatory environment, we are enhancing our esteemed compliance resources to better serve our members with the most efficient, comprehensive compliance assistance and information in the industry,” said NAFCU President/CEO Fred Becker.

Clair and Bahhur will help credit unions with compliance issues, write articles for the trade group's publications and compliance blog, and participate in NAFCU's compliance schools and seminars, the trade group said.

They join a three-person staff headed by NAFCU Director of Regulatory Compliance Steve Van Beek.

Clair has been a NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer since 2002 and is a graduate of the George Mason University School of Law in Arlington, Va.

Bahhur is a graduate of the Lansing, Mich.-based Thomas M. Cooley Law School and has been in-house counsel and director of compliance for Washington Gas Light FCU since 2009.

“With their strong compliance backgrounds, I know that Bernadette and Jiji will serve our credit union members well at NAFCU,” Becker said.
