Five people ready to be new credit union members were waiting at a branch Saturday of Michigan Schools and Government Credit Union, according to its COO, Lisa Burroughs.
“We've had around 20 new members so far, way more than we normally get on a Saturday, when we usually get one or two. We're getting a lot of loan applications, too, and people taking advantage of our CD specials,” Burroughs said.
The $1.1 billion, 66,000-member Michigan Schools and Government CU has nine branches in Macomb and Oakland counties in suburban Detroit, and all were open, instead of the usual three on Saturday, Burroughs said.
The credit union's Bank Transfer Day marketing theme has been “Control, Alt, Delete Your Bank.” Staff bearing that motto on their T-shirts were greeting members and new members this morning.
“It's going really well,” Burroughs said.
