Credit Union 24 has planned a conference for its 30th anniversary year on board a ship, the ATM and POS CUSO has announced.
Instead of booking a hotel or resort property, the CUSO's next conference meetings will take place April 19-23, 2012, aboard Royal Caribbean's Jewel of the Seas, which departs from Tampa, Fla. and makes a round trip with a port-of-call in Cozumel, Mexico.
“In our 30 years of service to credit unions, Credit Union 24 has focused on being an advocate for credit unions in the EFT arena and bringing unrivaled financial access to credit union members around the country,” said Jim Park, president and CEO of Credit Union 24. “Hosting this conference allows us to reflect on what has been accomplished in POS and ATM access during the past three decades, and discuss the direction that the credit union and EFT industries are heading.
“This once-in-a-blue-moon event offers credit union leaders many opportunities to network and learn from world-renowned speakers addressing many issues that our industry is facing, without having to pay exorbitant registration or accommodation fees that are typical of most conferences.”
Park called it a misapprehension that booking a stateroom on board a ship would necessarily be more expensive than booking a space at hotel or resort and pointed out that the ship provided a degree of accommodation to fit every budget.
“We rarely hold conferences, only when we believe we have a set of special circumstances. Our 30th anniversary felt like a special circumstance as well as the opportunity to offer a fresh look at some trends in the industry over the last few years,” Park said.
Among the trends Park listed were current economic and regulatory trends as well as a chance to introduce credit unions to the CUSO's new processor, FIS.
