While fans gear up for the big football game between Ohio State University and University of Michigan, two credit unions have plans to take the rivalry to another level.
November will mark the second annual “Money War”, where the $120 million, 20,000-member Credit Union of Ohio in suburban Columbus and the $446 million, 48,000-member University of Michigan Credit Union in Ann Arbor compete to raise donations to benefit their local children's hospital.
The rules are simple: the credit union that collects the most money wins.
The collection period for donations will take place Nov. 18 – 26 on both campuses and each credit union will donate its collections to Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, respectively.
The game is set for Nov. 26 at Ann Arbor.
Last year University of Michigan CU beat out CU of Ohio by just $300. As a result, Credit Union of Ohio staffers dressed in Michigan colors, snapped a picture and sent it to the University of Michigan CU.
“We've definitely got a plan in place this year to ensure that the University of Michigan Credit Union will be wearing scarlet and gray,” said Jill Gerschutz of Credit Union of Ohio. “No matter the results, we're glad to have the opportunity to partner with another credit union and do some good for our communities.”
