John Kutchey, the deputy director of the NCUA's Office of Examination and Insurance, will become the agency's deputy executive director and chief operating officer on Jan. 1, the agency said.
Kutchey, who will succeed Melinda Love upon her retirement, will assist Executive Director David Marquis with the agency's day-to-day operations.
"We're pleased to promote John to this important position," NCUA Chairman Debbie Matz said in a statement. "He brings a tremendous understanding of the agency at the headquarters, regional and field levels. Additionally, John's distinct role as our chief negotiator with the National Treasury Employees Union makes him the perfect fit for the deputy executive director's job."
Kutchey has held several positions in the agency, including director of risk management in the Office of Examination & Insurance and the Region II director of supervision.
He also served as a supervisory examiner, a problem case officer and a principal examiner.
Kutchey earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Baltimore and graduated magna cum laude.
