While many banks are busy hiking fees, CNN Money has named its top seven financial institutions that are still “awesome” and two credit unions have made the cut: the $7.9 billion Alliant Credit Union and the $342 million Connexus Credit Union.

Rounding out the list in the online article were Ally Bank, Bank of Internet USA, The Incredible Bank, ING Direct and PerkStreet.

The Wausau, Wis.-based Connexus was singled out for its competitively high-yield checking account, and a free checking account with no minimum balance helped Chicago-based Alliant make the top seven.
