North Island Credit Union Chief Operating Officer Geri LaChance has been tapped as the president/CEO SESLOC Federal Credit Union of the San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Effective December 2011, she'll succeed longtime leader Bertha Foxford, who, after 48 years of dedicated service, has announced her retirement.

A credit union industry veteran, LaChance has been on the North Island team for 23 years, 19 of which at the senior executive level.

During her years at the $1.1 billion, San Diego-based credit union, her responsibilities have ranged from branch and contact center administration, the investment and insurance division, and marketing to public relations, human resources and legal.

She is a graduate of the University of San Diego, where she earned both a bachelor's in business economics and an MBA in marketing. She also completed a master's certificate in finance at the University of Maryland.

"I am honored to have been selected as CEO and am so pleased to be joining the SESLOC team. Bertha Foxford has created a wonderful legacy, evidenced by this solid credit union which is an integral part of the financial lives of so many people in San Luis Obispo County. With this foundation, SESLOC has an exciting future ahead for growth and expansion of member services," said LaChance.

Active in the credit union industry, she currently serves on the California Credit Union League's Public Advocacy Committee and the Credit Union for Kids Wine Auction Committee. She is immediate past chair of the Credit Union Alliance, a cooperative public relations initiative among San Diego credit unions and was an inaugural member of the Filene i3 Group, the national credit union innovation team under the Filene Research Institute. She has also been involved with the World Council of Credit Unions, specifically with the Polish Credit Union movement, and has been a vocal advocate about "Twinning Program" opportunities between U.S. and developing foreign credit unions.
