They don't suggest that you should take your NCUA examiner to lunch.

However, the National Treasury Employees Union, which represents NCUA employees, is launching a television and radio public service advertising campaign aimed at increasing the public's appreciation for the valuable work that government employees do.

One of the ads singles out the work of government employees in areas such as protecting the food supply, ensuring the safety of bank deposits and monitoring the safety of drugs.

The advertisements will run on radio and television at a time when Congress is considering spending plans that could result in the reduction of government personnel and cuts in benefits and additional salary freezes.

The campaign is called "They Work for Us."

NTEU President Colleen Kelly said the union is running the campaign because "the truth is that while federal employees touch our lives in innumerable ways, many Americans know little about the important contributions these dedicated civil servants make to keep our nation safe, healthy and moving forward."

Approximately 80% of the NCUA's 1,200 employees are represented by the NTEU, the union said.
