Sporting a new name, PCSi, as well as new branding, South Carolina-based Palmetto Cooperative Services said it plans to expand its check processing operations to credit unions in the Midwest and along the East Coast.

The planned growth follows the CUSO’s January merger of Atlanta-based Cooperative Services Inc. that doubled its volume and formed an item processing firm with 600 customers in 20 states, the company said Thursday.

“Our processing services and image-based solutions have evolved to the point where we felt our item processing unit needed its own identity,” said Ed Culpepper, CEO of PCS in the Columbia suburb of Irmo.

“As credit unions make their individual settlement decisions in regard to the corporates, we will be right there supporting their programs,” Culpepper said.
