WASHINGTON — Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner criticized unnamed "dark forces," who are trying to undermine the implementation of the financial overhaul bill that Congress passed last year.

Geithner, who made his comments at an event sponsored by Politico, deflected a request by the moderator to specify which individuals or groups were causing problems.

However, the administration has criticized Senate Republicans for threatening to torpedo the nominations of appointees to several agencies and for actually blocking the nomination of Nobel Prize-winning economist Peter Diamond to the Federal Reserve Board.
