The $817 million A+ Federal Credit Union in Austin, Texas, has kicked off a Surviving My Layoff workshop and webinar series.

Unemployed or soon-to-be unemployed residents will learn how to take charge of their financial futures by planning for their reduction in income.

The first workshop, set for Thursday, will focus on transitioning to a new career, finding a new job and starting a small business.

The series includes workshops on budgeting, understanding credit and managing debt in times of financial crisis. Anyone affected by a layoff can participate via in-person attendance or online webinar.

The curriculum was designed in-house at the 92,000-member CU with input from the state's teacher retirement system and the Texas Workforce Commission.
