Credit Union of Atlanta has named Sheilah Montgomery its new president/CEO.
A 35-year financial services veteran, Montgomery previously served as president/CEO of 1st Choice Credit Union in Atlanta.
"[Sheilah's] wealth of knowledge [and] experience, passion for the credit union movement and desire for success are invaluable assets that will serve our members well and ensure a solid future for many years to come," said Calvin Tucker, board chairman of the $60 million CU of Atlanta.
Montgomery succeeds DeFarra Dean Gaymon who had served at the helm of CU of Atlanta from 2006 to his death in July 2010. Gaymon was shot and killed by a New Jersey undercover sheriff detective. A grand jury is scheduled to hear the case by May. While the credit union conducted a search for a permanent replacement, Tarra Jackson served as interim.
Montgomery is the co-founder of the African-American Credit Union Coalition. She is also a member of the National Federation of Community Development CUs and has served on the board of the Georgia Credit Union Executive Association, Greater Atlanta CU Chapter.
"It's a great honor to join CUA's leadership team," said Montgomery in a March 23 statement. CU of Atlanta serves more than 15,000 members.
