The $1.9 billion Michigan State University Federal Credit Union has joined the ranks of CUs that have picked up affinity card issuing relationships that were previously held by banks.

The credit union announced that it has partnered with Michigan State University to issue a credit card to university alumni, fans, faculty and staff.

"We are pleased to be able to offer this fantastic affinity credit card to MSU supporters that not only allows them to reinforce their commitment to the university, it provides financial support to Michigan State University student programs, and offers our members a card with a great low interest rate, low fees, and the ability to show their Spartan Pride," said Patrick McPharlin, MSUFCU CEO. "MSUFCU already offers what we

believe are the most consumer friendly credit cards, and by providing our members with a card that supports their alma matter, everybody wins."

"MSUFCU is a terrific partner and a long-time supporter of the MSU Alumni Association," said Scott Westerman, Associate Vice President for Alumni Relations, Michigan State University. "So I'm particularly excited to announce MSU's partnership with MSUFCU to bring you the new Official Spartan Credit Card. When you use the new Spartan Credit Card you help our Credit Union support the good work that MSUAA does across the Spartan Nation."

The alumni group already offers membership to the MSUFCU off of its website. It also advertises an American Express Card offers by FIA Card Services, the card issuing subsidiary of Bank of America, but links off the site to apply for the card or get more information about it did not function.
