When it comes to the Federal Reserve's media relations strategy, the times they are a-changing.

The central bank announced yesterday that Federal Reserve Chairman will hold news conferences once a quarter following the meetings at which the Federal Open Markets Committee makes policy decisions.

The news conferences come at a time when the Fed's decisions have come under increased scrutiny and criticism, especially on Capitol Hill.

Bernanke has done more media appearances than his predecessors, including an interview on CBS' 60 Minutes and a speech followed by questions and answers at the National Press Club.

The first session will be April 27.
