Credit union foundations' financial literacy efforts for teens have won honors and grants recently.

Teen participants in an after-school financial literacy program sponsored by the Credit Union Foundation of MD & DC took first place in a regional stock market game.

Competing among 136 teams, the Millionaire's Club of Frederick Douglass High School, Upper Marlboro, Md., earned the top spot with a 22.64% return above the S&P 500 Growth Index over a three-month period.

The New York Credit Union Foundation received a $20,751 grant from the National Credit Union foundation for its Money & Me program.

Created by NYCUF and delivered by credit unions in their communities, Money & Me uses hands-on activities to teach teens about budgeting, saving, maintaining a checking account and more. The workshops are offered free of charge during school breaks throughout the year.
