An executive with the $4.3 billion Alaska USA Federal Credit Union said the CU had long planned on returning to shared branching in the California branches it acquired from Arrowhead Central Credit Union.

Alaska USA acquired four Arrowhead branches that had shared branching in June of last year and then stopped shared branching in those branches. Alaska USA announced that it had added shared branching to all seven of its California branches yesterday.

Dan McCue, senior vice president with Alaska, said that the credit union had always intended to offer shared branching in the those branches, but said that the business of converting the branches from Arrowhead's system to Alaska's meant that they had to close shared branching for a time.

"We had enough going on in those branches, without having to add serving other credit union's members to the load," he explained.
