Allied Solutions, Carmel, Ind., representative Amy Skeptaris received a “Special Teams Player” award from Credit Union West of St. Paul, Minn. The award is reserved for people who make extra effort to support the credit union. In the case of a vendor, the award goes to someone who provides “unanticipated levels of service.” The Special Teams Player award is presented only when management is moved to acknowledge extraordinary service. Skeptaris, who was surprised with the award one morning by credit union executives, is now a client development manager for Allied Solutions.

CO-OP Financial Services, Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., and Anita Macias, assistant to the president, are the 2010 recipients of the “Kim Bannan Eternal Flame Award.” The awards, presented by the California Credit Union League, recognize efforts that contribute to the success and future of Shapiro Group credit unions through the cooperative spirit of people helping people. Macias was recognized for being a champion of small credit unions, especially through the San Francisco-based Patelco CU's Adopt-a-Credit Union program, which offered sponsorship opportunities, strategic planning facilitation and funds to open branches, operating grants and zero-interest CDs to various Bay Area credit unions. The award recipient in the company category, CO-OP Financial Services, was honored for the assistance it provided in 2010 to help Shapiro-sized credit unions be involved with league advocacy efforts.

Community Resource Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., had its 75th anniversary on Sept. 29 and received plaques from both the Credit Union Association of New York and the Credit Union National Association. To celebrate the milestone, the credit union has planned promotional activities into 2011.

Credit Union Association of Oregon, Portland, Ore., announced that several Oregon credit unions were ranked by Oregon Business Magazine to be among the best nonprofit organizations to work for. In a competition that involved over 150 organizations, Providence Federal Credit Union and Valley Health and Postal Employees Credit Union ranked 1st and 14th, respectively, in the small category, and Oregonians Credit Union ranked 6th among large employers.

The Credit Union Executive Society, Madison, Wis., announced Michele Myrick, former executive vice president of E&A Credit Union, as its 2010 future leader. Unfortunately, Myrick, a CUES member since 2002, unexpectedly passed away in March. Her husband, Scott Myrick, and father, Roger Quitter, former president/CEO of Christian Financial Credit Union, Roseville, Mich., accepted the award during a special presentation at the Metro East Chapter of Credit Unions 9th Annual Golf Outing in Chesterfield, Mich. She will also be honored in November at CUES' CEO/Executive Team Network in Dallas.

Olin Community Credit Union, Bethalto, Ill., won a CUNA Operations, Sales & Service Council best practices award in the management category. The award recognizes the credit union's innovative solutions in optimizing performance. Through a strategy that incorporated organization-wide training, referral goals and incentives and system integration, the credit union was able to increase membership, assets, shares and loans.

Elevations Credit Union, Boulder, Colo., was voted best financial institution by the Boulder Daily Camera. It is the 11th time in 12 years that the credit union has earned the recognition. The Daily Camera is one of the most popular and widely read newspapers in Boulder County.

The National Foundation for Credit Counseling, Silver Spring, Md., recognized four people with its “Making the Difference” award, which honors individuals who have made a significant contribution to assisting consumers with financial literacy, awareness and education. The recipients were Sharon Epperson, award-winning journalist and author; Colleen Benjamin, senior vice president at Bank of America; Don Leu, former Chairman of the NFCC board of trustees and current president/CEO of Consumer Credit Counseling Service of Nebraska; and Len Theide, vice president and co-founder of Vanco Services. The awards were presented at the NFCC's Annual Leaders Conference in Minneapolis in early October.

The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association, Palmyra, Pa., was honored with a first place CUNA PRO Award from the American Association of Credit Union Leagues during their 2010 Communicators Conference. The award recognizes the best public relations, publications and online communication efforts from entries submitted by state credit union leagues throughout the country.

Red Canoe Credit Union, Longview, Wash., was recognized in Las Vegas by CUNA with a best practices award in the category of sales and service management. The award acknowledged the credit union's strategy of incentive structures, quarterly management “Segway” meetings and its use of an intranet-based sales blog for management and staff.

Visions Federal Credit Union, Endwell, N.Y., was honored for the second year in a row by the Raddon Financial Group with the Crystal Performance Award. The award was designed to recognize credit unions for achieving a top-ten ranking based on the RFG Performance Index.
