Navy Federal Credit Union and Crane FCU of Indiana are moving next month to add new branches at military bases.

Navy said it would be opening this month one facility in Largo, Md., and a new Pentagon unit in Arlington, Va..

And the $331 million Crane of Odon is opening its third branch of the year with a facility at the U.S. Army's Camp Atterbury on Nov. 5.

Crane has also won Pentagon approval for expanded ATM coverage at the Muscatatuck Urban Training Center.

"We've been fortunate in these economic times to be able to continue our branching program," said Bryan Myers, vice president/sales-lending.

Crane said it was "honored to be selected as the financial services provider" for the Camp Atterbury branch, formally known as the Joint Maneuver Training Center, which serves Army and National Guard soldiers to be deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

For its part, Navy said last month it expanded its South Carolina presence opening a Department of Defense branch in Columbia serving Fort Jackson.

"We have a total of 185 branch offices worldwide with 12 new offices in 2010," said a Navy spokeswoman. "We will continue to expand our branch network with plans to open three to four branch offices in the first quarter of 2011."

The 2011 branches include one near the Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey and the Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss.

As for Crane, the southern Indiana CU said it opened two retail branches in Plainfield and Franklin earlier this year. Crane previously maintained a branch in Plainfield following a merger of a small CU there.

The additional property in Plainfield "became available and so we thought we ought to take advantage," said Myers.

Crane now has 10 Indiana branches and the Atterbury facility will be its 11th.
