As credit unions look for ways to build revenue, including off the balance sheet, CUSOs remain a viable alternative, advocates say. Still, the economy’s impact on members and credit union operations has led some to rethink their relationships including divesture in cases where CUSOs are financially risky or visions and management structures have changed. Some credit unions are eager to link up with strong, successful CUSOs to get their share of the revenue pie. For the most part, collaboration continues to be among the top approaches to achieve economies of scale and create innovation in spaces where voids previously existed.
