The Maryland & DC Credit Union Association will be hiring a national search firm to recruit a new CEO and hopes to have its new head in place by year end, according to Rod Staatz, the chair of an association search panel.

The top association manager will replace Michael Beall, who is leaving the trade group Nov. 1 to take a like job at the Missouri Credit Union Association.

"We've had a strong vision, advocacy and outreach program over the last few years and so we will be looking for someone who can build on that foundation," said Staatz who also is president/CEO of State Employees CU of Maryland, Linthicum.

The search firm to be picked, he said, will be looking at potential candidates on a national level "and is in the process of developing the criteria for the search."

Asked about the prospect for a merger or formal partnership with another East Coast league, Staatz said that "is not being considered now but when you look down the road that is always a possibility." On that, the association leadership looks to have an open discussion, he said.

In addition to Staatz, other members of the search panel include: Chris Conway, president/CEO Educational Systems FCU; Patricia Folk, president/CEO, Allegany Co. Teachers FCU; David Gilbert, chairman, Aberdeen Proving Ground FCU and Theresa Mann, president/CEO, Partnership FCU.
