Oregon
's largest credit union said its mobile banking transaction volume has expanded by a
bout a
third each month in the six months since it launched a new multi-mode platform.
OnPoint Community CU is offering its 205,000 members the option of accessing accounts through mobile devices using either SMS texting, downloadable applications or mobile Web/WAP functionality through the u4ia platform from Tyfone Inc., also of Portland.
Mobile Web access accounted for about 50% of the tens of thousands of member actions analyzed in the first 22 weeks of the service, the $2.8 billion credit union said, with SMS and apps equally dividing the rest. Checking account balances was by far the most popular activity, at 69%, followed by viewing statements at 28%.
The credit union said it expected bill pay and account transfers to become more heavily used as members become more comfortable with the service.
