San Mateo Credit Union, Redwood City, Calif., announced that a $100 was awarded to credit union member, Porter Goltz, as the second-place winner in the Fiserv “Make Bill Paying a Breeze” sweepstakes. Fiserv is a provider of technology solutions to the financial world, including the credit union's online bill pay system. The purpose of the sweepstakes was to create awareness of the simplicity of paying bills online and to encourage use of the program.

Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., honored 26 employees for their outstanding community service efforts while participating in the credit union's community involvement program. Volunteering over 200 hours in the third quarter alone, employees gave their time at various community events ranging from parades and festivals, to walks and fundraisers in order to help those in need.

Education Credit Union Council, Spanish Fort, Ala., announced plans to begin two new awards highlighting credit union dedication to the financial well-being of member-owners. The two awards, the lifetime achiever award and the FoolProof partnership award, will be formally announced at the organization's annual conference. The lifetime award will recognize a credit union that has a long-term strategy of incorporating financial education into their brand, marketing, internal employee training and credit union sponsored events. The FoolProof award will recognize an ECUC credit union that is partnered with FoolProof to provide young people with financial education through a school or community group.

Global Credit Union, Spokane, Wash., sponsored national military hero SSgt. Robert Jones at the Inland Northwest Chapter of the American Red Cross hometown heroes awards luncheon. Jones was named national military hero for his response to a medical emergency while on duty at his security post on Fairchild Air Force Base. Until rescue vehicles arrived Jones administered CPR to a man who had gone into allergic shock from a bee sting when his expired epinephrine pen did not work. Thanks to his quick thinking the man survived.

Cabrillo Credit Union, San Diego, announced that CEO Robin Lentz was the recipient of the unsung hero award from the San Diego chapter of the California Credit Union League. Lentz was recognized for her lifelong contribution to the credit union movement. In her 30 year career as CEO for the credit union, she has received numerous awards from local, regional and national credit union organizations.

1st Financial Federal Credit Union, St. Charles, Mo., received the builders award from Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County. The award is presented for significant financial support, enabling Habitat to carry out its mission. The credit union was chosen for its continued support, including financial contributions to Ashland Meadows, More Than Houses Campaign, Women Build Support and Celebration of Trees. In addition the credit union also provided financing for the purchase of land, enabling Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County to build homes.

Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Aberdeen, Md., announced the winners of its “Scan Your Smile & Win” sweepstakes. As part of its personal security month promotion, the five winners received heavy-duty cross-cut shredders to help protect against identity theft.

CU Members Mortgage, Dallas, recognized five credit union partners who made great achievements in their mortgage departments based on the score card process. The score card process was developed to assist credit unions in evaluating their progress, effectiveness and quality of their mortgage programs. The five honored credit unions were Eli Lilly Federal Credit Union, Credit Union of Texas, Fort Worth Community Federal Credit Union, Security Service Federal Credit Union and Sandia Area Federal Credit Union.

Credit Union Executives Society, Orlando, Fla., announced its top council winners and thanked its top recruiters at its annual CEO/executive team network conference. Among the councils honored were the CUES Alabama council, the CUES Iowa and Nevada councils, the CUES Rocky Mountain council, the CUES Delaware Valley and Utah councils, the CUES Michigan council. In addition, the CUES Florida and Greater Southern councils received awards of excellence.

CUNA Mutual Group, San Diego, recognized five credit unions with excellence in lending awards at their 15th annual CUNA lending council conference. The excellence awards were presented in conjunction with the CUNA lending council. Awards were presented to New Orleans Firemen's Credit Union, Metairie, La., Rogue Federal Credit Union, Medford, Ore., Mayo Employees Federal Credit Union, Rochester, Minn., Erie Federal Credit Union, Erie, Pa., and St. Louis Community Credit Union, St. Louis.
