Ensuring the safety of credit unions, making regulations more transparent and educating citizens about credit unions are among the proposed goals of the NCUA for 2011-2016.
The agency intends to use examinations and risk analyses as its primary tools to ensure that the system is "safe, sound and healthy."
It also will promote consumer protection and education to ensure that the system serves as many eligible members as possible.
