GFA Federal Credit Union Gardner, Mass., received the first place Dora Maxwell Social Responsibility Recognition Award and the second place Louise Herring Award for Philosophy in Action from the Massachusetts Credit Union League. The credit union was recognized with the Dora Maxwell Award based on its financial education program. The Louise Herring Award was presented based on the credit union's fusion savings program, a solution that promotes systematic savings.

Charter Oak Federal Credit Union, Groton, Conn., was named a winner in The Commercial Record 2009 readership poll. Chosen as a silver award winner in the credit union category, readers of the publication selected the credit union as one of the best providers of financial products and services.

Andrews Federal Credit Union, Suitland, Md., received the cross of gratitude from the American Gold Star Mothers during their annual Gold Star Mothers banquet. The credit union received the award in recognition of its support of the N.J. Run for the Fallen event, which was held in honor of service members. Funds raised during the run were donated to the Gold Star Mothers National Monument fund.

1st Advantage Federal Credit Union, Yorktown, Va., named member Richard Shephard the winner of its $1,000 Visa gift card drawing. Hundreds of registration entries were received at local Langley Speedway for the grand prize.

Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., received the 2009 community partner award at the Whitney M. Young Jr. Foundation's 2009 Legacy Event. The credit union and its Capital Communications Cares Foundation were honored for their significant contributions to the community. Along with countless volunteer hours, the credit union and its foundation have given more than $21,000 to help support Whitney Young's community health mission.

Texans Credit Union, Richardson, Texas, received the 2009 employers for education excellence gold award from the Texas State Board of Education. The award honors employers who implement a policy to encourage and support employees actively participating in school activities. The credit union won the award based on their employee dedication and commitment to Junior Achievement.

TruMark Financial Credit Union, Trevose, Pa., was recognized by business leaders as one of the 2009 best places to work in Pennsylvania. The credit union ranked 13th in the "large-sized company" category. The award identifies, recognizes and honors the best places to be employed in Pennsylvania, benefiting the state's economy, its workforce and businesses.

Aberdeen Proving Ground Federal Credit Union, Aberdeen, Md., received an award by the Association of the United States Army for 30 years of corporate sponsorship. The credit union sponsors AUSA in support of the military and civilian employees at Aberdeen Proving Ground, demonstrating its support of the Army and AUSA's mission of keeping America's army strong.

Shell Federal Credit Union, Deer Park, Texas, was presented with the award of merit for national community credit union of the year. Established by CUNA the award recognizes and honors community credit unions that are proactive in the credit union movement, active in their communities and that present a variety of product and service options to meet the needs of their diverse memberships.

Kern Schools Federal Credit Union, Bakersfield, Calif., received several awards from local nonprofit organizations for supporting charities. The credit union received recognition and a plaque for selling the most tickets for the 7th annual St. Jude's dream home giveaway in Bakersfield, Calif., helping raise over $713,800 for the fight against childhood cancer. The credit union was also recognized at this year's Boys & Girls Clubs of Kern County's annual ArtFest event for being a preferred partner in the community.

Hanscom Federal Credit Union, Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass., presented the 2009 board memorial award to the Natick, Mass. office of the Army's division of Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation. The award's accompanying $1,000 grant will be used to support FMWR's angel tree program, which helps make sure no Natick-area soldier or their family experiences a holiday without gifts.

Genisys Credit Union, Auburn Hills, Mich., received the honor of being named one of the 2009 The Detroit Free Press top workplaces in the medium-size category by its employees. The survey, conducted by WorkplaceDynamics of Exton, Pa., identified key factors that are important to employees such as business practices, company growth, education, income, atmosphere and future opportunities.
