After 55 years, Credit Union of Johnson County has a new name: Mainstreet Credit Union.

With its reach expanding beyond Johnson County, the new name is designed to better reflect the Lenexa, Kan.-based credit union's growing community.

"Our new name symbolizes the values our credit union stands for, such as trust, respect, honesty-key values of the Heartland," said Mainstreet CU President/CEO John Beverlin. "And it reinforces to the community that we're not 'Wall Street,' we're Main Street."

The $235 million credit union will be unveiling its new brand identity in ads that ran running during the Super Bowl pregame show. In addition to the Super Bowl ads, over the next few months Mainstreet CU will building brand awareness via newspapers, billboards, buses, television and radio.

According to Beverlin, the timing couldn't be better for the name change as the "Move Your Money" campaign, which encourages consumers to move their money to smaller community banks and credit unions, is gaining national attention. He added that the new name and advertising campaign provides the CU an opportunity to introduce the credit union to a broader community.
