Credit unions in Indianapolis and New Orleans geared up for their teams' Super Bowl match-up with a mix of creativity and style.

According to Louisiana Credit Union League Public Relations Specialist Lacey Hyer, since this is the New Orleans Saints' first trip to the Super Bowl, many credit unions are opting to open their offices late on Monday, Feb. 8 and this week are allowing staff to dress down in black and gold until the big game.

In Metairie, La., GNO FCU staffers found a way to combine their support for the Saints with their concern for the Haitian earthquake victims. Employees donating $15 or more to the WOCCU Disaster Relief Fund for Haiti had the option of wearing black and gold from Friday, Jan. 29 through the Monday after the game.

GNO FCU President/CEO Janet L. Sanders was happy to support both efforts, and employees made sure the $97 million credit union's branch lobbies were decked out with Saints pendants, gold stars and balloons to make it an unforgettable experience for credit union members as well.

Things were equally festive in Indiana, with credit union staffers donning their blue and white in hopes of cheering the Indianapolis Colts to a second Super Bowl win. Energy Plus Credit Union launched a special half-percentage point off a Super Bowl new and used auto loan promotion. One lucky staffer who cross sells the most loans (not just auto) by the end of the week will receive a $25 Kroger gift card to kick off his or her own Super Bowl party. If the Colts win, the credit union may extend the promotion. Fire Police City County Federal Credit Union staffers celebrated "blue week" not just by sporting their Colts gear but by also offering loan and checking account promotions.

Heritage Federal Credit Union had 13 spots slated to air on the local CBS TV affiliate during Super Bowl Sunday throughout the day and night. Also making the most of the pregame hype was MidWest America Federal Credit Union, which ran a page color ad in a special COLTS/Super Bowl tabloid on Feb. 5 in The Journal-Gazette and The News-Sentinel.

Shell New Orleans Federal Credit Union filmed a 10-second "shout out" to the Saints that aired several times the week before Super Bowl Sunday on a local television station.
