When Barnes Banking Co.(Barnes Bank), which had a branch in South Ogden, Utah, closed its doors for good after being in business for 119 years, Goldenwest Credit Union launched a simple, direct campaign specifically targeting the bank's customers.

From staying open on Martin Luther King Day to creating specials for new Barnes Bank customers ranging from $75 and $100 respectively for new personal checking and business accounts opened, to a five year in-house mortgage special rate of 4.99% and seven year in-house mortgage loan rate of 5.74%, the credit union has gone all out to show the difference membership makes.

To spread the word Goldenwest CU staffers boldly handed out flyers in the local Barnes Bank parking lot, literally went door-to-door, blogged and tweeted about how the credit union can help meet their banking needs.

The aggressive approach is paying off as former Barnes Bank customers have been flocking to Goldenwest CU's Kayville branch and the credit union set a record for most accounts opened at a single branch.
