Reaching out to Hispanics via the Internet, CUNA and Coopera Consulting will unveil a new Spanish-language turnkey package for credit unions Jan. 4 called El Poder Es Tuyo.
Officials of CUNA and Coopera, an Iowa league subsidiary said CUs in several border states and in the Midwest where there are large Hispanic population centers have already begun signing up for El Poder Es Tuyo, a package officials claim is priced low enough for small CUs to afford.
"You know a credit union can go out and spend $8,000 to develop its own Spanish-language Web site," Coopera CEO Warren Morrow said, but here we have something that can be branded by a CU at a price tag it can bear.
At the same time, Coopera is also promoting an assessment tool called the Hispanic Opportunity Navigator to help guide CUs in gauging the Hispanic market. The president of Amarillo Community CU in Texas said HON could steer her CU to offer profitable products. "In the past we have tried to use our existing concepts to communicate and market to the Hispanic community but we quickly realized, however, that this was ineffective and that we simply must have a better understanding," explained Arna Reynolds, CEO.
She said it is her hope that HON will guide Amarillo Community "to more precisely tailor our marketing efforts while at the same time maintaining sensitivity toward cultural nuances."
