Credit union donations to help the victims and families of the Fort Hood shooting massacre were starting to pour in from across Texas and the U.S. last week with special accounts set up by foundations and individual CUs.Pentagon FCU, which has a branch on the base, said its facility has already contributed $5,000 to the Fort Hood “Chaplain’s Fund.” The foundation of the Washington, D.C., credit union is reaching out with assistance through an arrangement with Enterprise Rental Car to offer cars for victims’ families traveling in the area.“We are also in touch with base command about supporting lodging needs,” said Mary Lynn Stevens, vice president of the foundation.The Texas Credit Union League said its foundation working with Texas Partners CU of Killeen “has established an account for donations to support the needs of affected personnel on Fort Hood and the community.”The league, its Credit Union Resources subsidiary and the Texas Credit Union Foundation is opening a Fort Hood Support account with a $2,000 donation, said a league spokeswoman.“We are in the very beginnings of this effort and in the spirit of the credit unions’ mission of People Helping People, we have collaborated with Texas Partners to be the local focal point for donations regarding the Nov. 5 event,” said the league. “We are in communication with the U.S. Army Third Corp and Fort Hood Public Relations Office on the disposition of these funds.”Donations to the Fort Hood Support Fund can be sent to Texas Partners Federal Credit Union, 1011 Wales Drive, Killeen, TX 76549.
