The Mid-America Credit Union Association representing North and South Dakota credit unions has suddenly lost its CEO, Tony Richards, who has resigned effective Sept. 7.

In a brief statement issued by its interim staff on Thursday, the MACUA board said it had accepted his resignation "effective immediately."

"The board and Tony agreed that it was time to find new challenges," said Jeff Olson, political affairs and public relations director.

While a search is underway for a new CEO, Olson along with Stephanie Merrill, vice president of human resources and administration and Karla Clark, CFO will be handling day-to-day operations.

Richards, a former consultant to CUs in Pittsburgh and in Texas, has been with the trade group three years and helped charter the ground-breaking merger of the North and South Dakota leagues to form Mid-America with headquarters in Bismarck.

Olson said the MACUA board will meet Sept. 16 to review "the full range of options in search of a successor."
