SCHOLARSHIPS

CU Community Credit Union, Springfield, Mo., announced the winner of its 2009 Franklin O. Walstrand memorial scholarship. Credit union member Chase Neff was awarded the $1,000 scholarship at CU Community’s 75th anniversary annual meeting. Neff is attending Missouri State University to study physical therapy. The scholarship was established in 1996 to honor Franklin O. Walstrand, the first president of the credit union. Since then, 14 graduating high school seniors have been offered the scholarship. AOD Federal Credit Union, Bynum, Ala., awarded six $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors. AOD created the scholarship to assist members with the increasing cost of college tuition. The credit union awards six scholarship on an annual basis to any graduating high school seniors who have been AOD members for at least one year. Universal 1 Credit Union, Dayton, Ohio, awarded scholarships to two members. Claire Roess and Jordan Whitaker were the recipients of a $1,000 scholarship each. Roess is attending Furman University to study biology, and Whitaker is attending Miami University to study political science. Universal 1 offers the scholarship to high school seniors who are members and are considering post-secondary education at an accredited college or university.

Greater TEXAS Federal Credit Union, Bastrop, Texas, awarded B.E.S.T. scholarships to seniors from three local high schools. The three winning students submitted applications at the credit union’s B.E.S.T college night and were chosen by a panel of credit union representatives.
