Joining an initiative launched by Pennsylvania Gov. Edward Rendell in line with the Obama administration, as many as 50 Pennsylvania credit union executives are expected to volunteer their services starting next month to serve as financial advisers in a “Get Help Now” program.

Following up on an Obama request asking state governors to help fellow citizens deal with the financial crisis, 15 Pennsylvania CUs agreed to help staff guidance centers made up of lawyers and financial advisers starting July 7 and extending through Sept. 11 in local communities.

The centers, open two days a week in five hour shifts, will be housed chiefly in local bar association offices.

In a statewide Webcast, Gov. Rendell said he has enlisted attorneys, banking and mortgage professionals, and financial analysts knowledgeable in finance, credit, and bankruptcy to serve on help desks in county bar association offices.

There were 28 CUs from the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association in attendance at a kickoff announcement in Harrisburg on Monday.
