First Capital Federal Credit Union, York, Pa., staff and members brought donations of nonperishable food to WROZ-FM’s broadcast location from the parking lot of the credit union’s West Manchester branch. The York Rescue Mission received more than $300 in cash and dozens of food items.

Kitsap Credit Union, Bremerton, Wash., launched a member referral campaign, resulting in a donation to local food banks in the amount of $14,484. The credit union recognized that economic conditions have strained many local services, including food banks that have served up to 40% more families than last year.Connex Credit Union, North Haven, Conn., donated $585 to the North Haven High School Parent Teacher Student Association. The funds will be used to support the high school’s annual 5K road race and one-mile kids fun run fitness walk. The money collected came from the fees gathered by a coin counting machine at the North Haven branch.Hawthrone Credit Union, Naperville, Ill., employees and members donated 162 pounds of personal health and hygiene items, and snacks for operation support our troops of Illinois. The participants completed their mission of reminding U.S. soldiers fighting overseas they are appreciated and missed by the citizens for Illinois.United Educational Credit Union, Battle Creek, Mich., approved a grant in the amount of $750 to support revisions to the Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center science unit kits. Late last year the Michigan Department of Education made public a completely revised science curriculum for grades K-7. The overhaul of the kits is necessary to make sure that they meet new state guidelines by the 2010 deadline.Insight Financial, Orlando, Fla., hosted its second annual cruise for a cause motorcycle poker run. The event raised $15,000 to benefit the Russell Home for Atypical Children. More than 100 participants cruised through Orange, Seminole and Lake Counties.DuTrac Community Credit Union, Dubuque, Iowa, raised more than $2,000 for the Iowa Special Olympics. Staff members plunged into the Mississippi River for the cause. Altogether, last year’s polar plunge raised more than $15,000 for the Iowa Special Olympics, a new record.
