HARRISBURG, Pa. — Citing the impact of NCUA actions on credit unions and the gloomy economy, the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association is cutting registration fees by 50% for its annual meeting and convention in May.
"As credit union CEOs, the association's board of directors recognize that credit union budgets are tight," explained Chair Diana Roberts. "However, now more than ever, credit unions need to make the most of our cooperative spirit and collaborative strength through our trade association on behalf of the movement.
By reducing the fees, attendance will remain high, since it is now so important "to gain knowledge and exchange ideas" during this difficult period, said Roberts, who also is president/CEO of Hershey FCU.
Under the reduction, registration fees for CUs over $20 million in assets are cut to $175, down from $350. Those with assets under $20 million will pay $100, down from $200. CUs can further save by taking advantage of early-bird discounts if registered by March 27, said PCUA noting that ticketed events will remain at original prices.
The annual PCUA meeting will be held May 14-16 at the Hershey Lodge with finance author and commentator Jane Bryant Quinn as keynote speaker.
Last year's meeting drew 400. "We hope the fee reduction will draw even more this year," said Michael Wishnow, senior vice president-marketing.
"Our country and credit unions are facing unprecedented times not seen since the Great Depression," said James McCormack, PCUA president/CEO. "As we join to celebrate 75 years of serving members in Pennsylvania, I'm confident that credit unions will grow stronger and more relevant during these trying times."
