NAPLES, Fla. -- The number of card offers mailed directly to consumers dropped to the lowest levels since 2003 last year, according to numbers reported by Cardtrak.com and compiled by its data tracking partner, Cardwatch.
According to Cardwatch, bank card issuers sent out 3.8 billion card offers to consumers last year, the lowest number since 2003 and 30% lower than the number sent in 2007. Cardtrak reported that the drop is part of the reason the U.S. Postal Service has asked Congress to consider dropping mail service to five days per week.
