WASHINGTON – The experts have confirmed what most people already know: the United States is in a recession.

Based on its analysis employment and production numbers, the National Bureau of Economic Research announced today that the recession has been going on since last December.

"A recession is a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in production, employment, real income and other indicators," according to the Cambridge, Massachusetts-based organization's statement.
