WASHINGTON -- CUNA worked with the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association to put together a brochure that the state group financed and sent out over the weekend on behalf of embattled U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski (D-Pa.), a strong credit union supporter.
The brochures --which are defined as "partisan communications'' were mailed to credit union members within the 11th District, in Northeast Pennsylvania. CUNA and the association worked on several other brochures during this campaign cycle.
There were also volunteers from credit unions in the area and from outside the district who campaigned on behalf of the 12-term lawmaker who in today's election is facing the toughest challenge of his career, from Hazleton Mayor Lou Barletta.
At a rally in Wilkes-Barre last night former President Clinton said "Nobody knows more about economics and how it affects people in their real lives than Paul Kanjorski. You have to return him to Washington," according to an account in today's editions of The Times-Leader in Wilkes-Barre.
Barletta has received help and independent expenditures from many national conservative groups, especially those that support his efforts to combat illegal immigration, a hallmark of his tenure.
