FARMERS BRANCH, Texas — The online campaign to "adopt" needy credit union families suffering losses from Hurricane Ike is gaining traction this week with five southeast Texas families already finding benefactors in time for the holidays.
The signups are taking place within days after the Texas Credit Union League posted the first heartbreaking stories of families who lost homes and livelihoods as a result of the Labor Day disaster.
In respect to privacy concerns, the names of national donors or recipients are not listed on the Texas League Web site, http://www.tcul.coop/Adopt-a-Family but the wish list of the youngsters tells a story of tragedy and sadness.
