MCLEAN, Va. — The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 6.04% for the week ending Oct. 23, down from last week when it averaged 6.46%. Last year at this time, the 30-year fixed mortgage averaged 6.33%, according to Freddie Mac's primary mortgage market survey.
The 15-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 5.72%, down from last week when it averaged 6.14%. A year ago at this time, the 15-year fixed averaged 5.99%.
Five-year Treasury-indexed hybrid adjustable-rate mortgages averaged 6.06% this week, down from last week when it averaged 6.14%. A year ago, the five-year ARM averaged 6.03%.
One-year Treasury-indexed ARMs averaged 5.23% this week, up from last week when it averaged 5.16%. At this time last year, the one-year ARM averaged 5.66%.
Fifteen percent of the panelists surveyed by Bankrate.com for the week of Oct. 23 through Oct. 29 believe mortgage rates will rise over the next 35 to 45 days. Another 46 percent think rates will fall, and the rest believe rates will remain relatively unchanged.
