ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The NCUA is scheduled to discuss and vote on final rules on the use of its logo in advertising and implementation of the Freedom of Information Act at its meeting next Thursday at its headquarters here.

The proposed rule about advertising, which was sent out for comment in April, will permit insured credit unions, in addition to using the official advertising statement in its advertisements, to use the shortened statement alone or the official sign alone in advertisements.

The official statement is: “This credit union is federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration.” Currently, the regulation permits shortening the official statement to “Federally insured by NCUA” if used with a reproduction of the official sign.

Under the agency's proposed rules change for implementing the Freedom of Information Act someone would only need to show proof of someone's death to obtain the records. NCUA also wants to start the calendar that regulates when the federal agency must respond to a request to when the request is received by the proper office of the agency, not when it is filed.

The agenda also says the agency will be unveiling a proposed rules change as part of its “Regulatory Flexibility” program well capitalized and well managed CUs but agency officials are not disclosing any additional details.

The meeting, which is scheduled to start at 10:00 a.m., is the first one that NCUA Chairman Michael E. Fryzel will be presiding over. He was sworn in at the end of July and there as no NCUA Board meeting in August.
