WOODBURY, MINN. — After four months of construction and contributions from national and local organizations, CUNA yesterday handed injured Iraq war veteran Sgt. Marcus Kuboy the keys to his new home.

“This is really kind of a special, amazing moment for me,” he told some of those in attendance a few minutes before the ceremony in this suburb of St. Paul.

CUNA President and CEO Dan Mica presided over the ceremony, as he did at a similar event last week in a Denver suburb, and praised the commitment of all those involved in the project. Homes for our Troops, a Boston-area organization, coordinated the construction efforts.

Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said the home was a token of appreciation for members of the military who are “the thin line between us and a lot of bad things.”

About 45 Minnesota credit unions raised $130,000 for the project, and many members and employees volunteered their time during the building process.
