MADISON, Wis. — CUES has found a new way to raise hopes and funds to benefit lung cancer research.
On Sunday, August 10, at Capital Brewery Middleton, Wis., CUES will be hosting a new event Celebrate Hope.
Expanding on the efforts of the annual Drive for Hope golf tournament, this inaugural event will support the Creating Hope Lung Cancer Campaign, which provides funds for national lung cancer research at the University of Wisconsin Paul P. Carbone Comprehensive Cancer Center in Madison.
Tickets for the event will be available to the public and include buffet-style food, two drink tickets per person, each good for one glass of Capital Brewery beer or a pitcher of soda, kid-friendly activities and entertainment by the a cappella group the UW Madhatters.
"As we've seen in the past two years, every bit of help makes a significant difference in our efforts to create hope for lung cancer patients and their loved ones. Celebrate Hope is another way that we as a community can contribute to research that could improve survival rates and someday lead to a cure," said Fred Johnson, president/CEO of the Credit Union Executives Society, who lost his wife, Linda Aplas Johnson, to lung cancer in 2006.
To date, Drive for Hope has raised $163,000, thanks to the help and generosity of the credit union community. The 2008 Drive for Hope tournament, organized by CUES, will be held Monday, Aug. 11, at Bishops Bay Country Club, Middleton. With sights set high for the 2008 fundraising efforts, Drive for Hope is seeking support through sponsorships of the golf tournament from credit unions, suppliers and individuals, as well as donations to the silent auction.
