NEW YORK -- There is no excuse not to be remarkable and if we do, we will benefit all those we come in contact with.
That was the message of author and "chief morale officer'' Kirk Weisler during a session this morning at the Credit Union Conference & Expo. He said by taking that approach people will make everyone's life more meaningful.
"We all have a gift, it's part of the human endowment,'' he said during a session called "The Dog Poop Initiative,'' in which he focuses on good and bad leadership and inspirational practices.
He suggested several ways to show love, in the workplace and in life overall:
1. Give people words of affirmation. 2. Give people gifts. 3. Give them the gift of your time. 4. Physical touch. 5. Do acts of service.
With that attitude, you will improve.
During staff meetings, there should be regular instances in which you show motivation, education, recognition and connection. While a manager can begin these initiatives, he or she should turn over responsibility to employees to devise these team-building approaches, Weisler suggested.
He also said it is imperative to continually grow and improve.
"If you're not growing, you're done. Damnation doesn't start in the next life, it starts in this one,'' Weisler said.
