Boulder Valley Credit Union, Boulder, Colo., awarded scholarships to three Boulder Valley School District high school seniors. Each were awarded a $1,500 or $1,000 college scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Mary Lanaghen from Monarch High School received a $1,500 scholarship recipient and Zachary Luna and Christina Buehler from Centaurus High School each received $1,000 scholarships. Lanaghen is planning to attend Colorado University, Boulder to study finance and accounting. Luna is planning to attend Colorado College and study marketing and visual arts and Buehler is planning to attend Colorado State to study radiology. Each recipient was chosen based upon their academic achievement, participation in extracurricular activities, their passion for continuing education and their commitment to community involvement.

Georgetown Kraft Credit Union, Georgetown, S.C., awarded five area high school students $1,000 scholarships. The scholarship can be used to offset the cost of tuition, books or room and board at any two or four-year college. A four-person committee comprised of Georgetown Kraft volunteers selected the recipients based on their academic and extracurricular activities at school, community involvement, services, work and leadership experience. The recipients were: Brian Owners of Carvers Bay High School who will be attending Francis Marion University, Philip Russell of Waccamaw high School who will be attending the University of South Carolina, Garrett Swann of Georgetown High School who will be attending Clemson University, Courtney Washington of Hemingway High School who will be attending Columbia College and Brittany Watson of Carvers Bay High School who will be attending Clemson University.

Delta Community Credit Union, Atlanta, gave $5,000 scholarships to three first-time college freshmen. Over 200 applications were judged based on scholastic achievement, leadership, community involvement, a personal essay and membership in Delta Community. In addition to the scholarships, Delta Community awarded the top three runners-up a laptop computer. The scholarship winners and runners-up were: Amy Evans from Fayetteville, Ga. who plans to attend the University of Georgia in the fall and major in chemistry, Erich Hodges from Brush Prairie, Wash., who plans to attend Iowa State University and enter the pre-veterinary program and Godfrey Ilonzo III from Atlanta who plans to attend Harvard University and major in molecular cellular biology, Jordan Krenz from Marietta, Ga., who plans to attend the University of Georgia to major in history and law, Seth Ramey from Denton, Texas, who plans to attend Southern Methodist University to major in business and broadcasting and Amanda Snekszer from Acworth, Ga., who plans to attend Johns Hopkins University and major in biomedical engineering.
