WASHINGTON — Members of eight national and state credit union associations met with members of Congress and their staffs during Members United Corporate Federal Credit Union Hike the Hill on May 13 and 14.

The series of meetings, which is the first of what Members United hopes will be an annual event, featured 30 visits during the two-day session on Capitol Hill.

Participants discussed regulatory relief for credit unions and other issues pending before Congress.

“This was a great opportunity to walk the halls of our lawmakers with our league and association partners,” said Joseph P. Herbst, the CEO of the Illinois-based organization, which provides wholesale investment, credit, payment and correspondent services to almost 2,300 credit unions across the country.

Representatives from the following organizations participated: Association of Corporate Credit Unions, Credit Union Association of Rhode Island, CUNA, Illinois Credit Union League, Indiana Credit Union League, Mid-America Credit U

nion Association, New Jersey Credit Union League, and the New York State

Credit Union League.

AmeriChoice FCU and Mechanicsburg Middle School Honor WWII Veterans

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. — AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union and Mechanicsburg Middle School recently teamed up to honor World War II veterans by participating in the Honor Bus, an expansion of the Honor Flights Network that flew 137 WWII veterans to Washington, D.C.

The Honor Bus, consisting of chartered deluxe coaches, transported 120 WWII veterans to visit the WWII Memorial and the Tomb of the Unknowns. Mechanicsburg Middle School students accompanying the veterans were able to experience first hand and take part in the veteran tribute.

The event began with a dignitary address by Congressman Todd Platts. Former Senator Bob Dole greeted the participants at the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C., before the wreath ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknowns. A celebration dinner at the Naval Officers Club in Mechanicsburg, Pa., included guest speakers Sen. Pat Vance and Rep. Jerry Nailor.

“It was an honor to be a part of this historical event honoring the sacrifices made by the brave men and women of our nation. The honor and courage that the Greatest Generation displayed when facing their challenges is truly something to be admired and an example to learn from,” said Susan Ewing, honor bus volunteer. “AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union is proud to have been a sponsor of the honor bus and wants to thank any and all veterans who were not able to join us, thank you.”
