WASHINGTON — Justice Department reached an agreement with the National Association of Realtors in its antitrust lawsuit, which charged the NAR with stifling competition by refusing access to its Multiple Listing Service to Internet brokers.
Now, those brokers, who typically offer discounted commissions will be able to feature homes for sale in some 800 MLS nationwide. Consumer advocates said the settlement would be good for homeowners, as it may save them thousands of dollars on the sale of a home. There were no fines levied and no wrongdoing admitted by the NAR, which called the settlement good for both sides, labeling it a "win-win."
The case was originally filed in 2005.
