FAIRFAX,Va. — The $1 billion Apple Federal Credit Union is taking responsibility for a rivalry between two Virginia high schools over which could better “feed the pig” or increase their savings rates.

Both Stonewall Jackson High School and Osbourn Park High School, each located in Manassas, are sites for Apple's Student Run Credit Union program and each launched a “feed the pig” promotion to promote the value of savings.

Each did very well, with Osbourn seeing a 100% increase in their monthly average savings rate and Stonewall, ultimately, saving $74,000 over the campaign compared to Obsourn's $34,0000. For its accomplishment, Stonewall received a “feed the pig” trophy donated by a local retailer.

Student employees from each school developed a marketing campaign for the effort, using ideas first drawn from a similar campaign run by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and aimed adults aged 25-34.
