ALEXANDRIA, Va. — While not issuing a proposed rule or even an advance notice of proposed rulemaking, NCUA has "Outreach Task Force: Data Collection" as its top agenda item for next week's meeting.

The issue has caused some controversy within the credit union community as to the degree of burden it carries. NCUA Board Member Gigi Hyland, who had chaired the task force, has pointed out in the past that the board does not even have to hold public notice and comment to make changes to the 5300 Call Report, the method by which the information would be collected.

The NCUA Board will also consider a proposed interpretive ruling and policy statement "to approve service to underserved areas," at its May 22 meeting.
