WASHINGTON — For CUNA, the three recent special elections for U.S. House seats have only been partially special.

The group's preferred candidate in Tuesday's election in Mississippi's 1st District, Republican Southaven Mayor Greg Davis, lost to Democrat Travis Childers, the Prentiss County chancery clerk.

CUNA had better luck earlier this month in two Louisiana elections. It backed Republican Steve Scalise and Democrat Don Cazayoux who won special elections for the U.S. House in the 1st and 6th Districts of the Pelican State, respectively.

CUNA's political action committee–the Credit Union Legislative Action Council–endorsed and gave money to Davis, Scalise and Cazayoux.

The Mississippi and Louisiana 6th District races received national attention because the Democratic candidate won in areas that had long been GOP strongholds.
