WASHINGTON — CUNA and the Alabama Credit Union League have endorsed state Rep. Jay Love in the GOP primary for the open seat in Alabama's 2nd Congressional District.
Both organizations said they plan to contribute $5,000 to Love's campaign, the maximum allowed by federal law.
Love, a former restaurant owner who has been a state legislator since 2003, is one of several candidates in the June 3 primary. Among his opponents is state Sen. Harri Anne Smith, executive vice president of Slocomb National Bank and has received support from several banking organizations.
The congressional seat has been held since 1993 by U.S. Rep. Terry Everett, who is retiring.
